NBA CRISIS: How Osigwe Turned Enugu NBA AGC into Campaign Rally for Badejo-Okusanya – Akinboro, Akangbe
The 2025 Annual General Conference (AGC) of the Nigerian Bar Association in Enugu has become a central issue in a petition submitted to the NBA Board of Trustees by presidential aspirants Aare Muyiwa Akinboro, SAN, and Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN.
In their letter, the aspirants alleged that official conference events were used to promote fellow aspirant, Oyinkasola Badejo-Okusanya. They claimed that during the official Health Walk, only one aspirant was allowed to distribute campaign-branded materials to lawyers, while other candidates were not given similar access.
The letter further alleged that at the official “Unbarred Party,” a prominent projection screen displayed a large advertisement featuring the same aspirant, effectively turning an institutional event into a campaign platform.
Describing the incidents as a visible alignment between the presidency and a particular candidate, the petitioners argued that such actions undermine neutrality and distort the electoral playing field.
Consequently, they requested the resignation of the NBA President, the immediate reconstitution of the ECNBA with safeguards ensuring independence, and the creation of an independent oversight mechanism to restore confidence in the electoral process.
