ACP Amah, Famous for Rejecting $200,000 Bribe, Converts to Islam”

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Daniel Amah, widely celebrated for rejecting a $200,000 bribe almost three years ago, has formally converted to Islam. The ceremony took place on Tuesday at the palace of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, where Amah embraced Islam and adopted the name ‘Muhammad.’

During the event, Emir Sanusi II advised Amah to seek Islamic knowledge and adhere to the five pillars of Islam, which include belief in Allah, performing the five daily prayers, fasting during Ramadan, undertaking the pilgrimage to Mecca, and giving Zakat (charitable donations). The Emir also offered prayers for Amah’s guidance in his new faith, urging him to maintain his exemplary character and respect his parents, irrespective of their religious beliefs.

Amah first gained national recognition in April 2022 as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Nasarawa Police Division in Kano State when he rejected a $200,000 bribe from armed robbery suspects. The suspects had stolen over N300 million, including $750,000 from a Bureau De Change (BDC) operator.

In recognition of his integrity, the Police Service Commission (PSC) promoted Amah from Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) to Assistant Commissioner of Police in November 2022. He also received the 2022 Public Service Integrity Award from then-President Muhammadu Buhari.
