ACRPN Urges President Tinubu to Harness Women’s Competence for National Development
The Arewa Civil Rights and Professionals Network (ACRPN) has called on President Bola Tinubu to leverage the skills and competence of women to drive national development, particularly in leadership roles. In a statement signed by its President, Barrister Aminu Kabir, the group emphasized the importance of appointing women to key positions in the country to foster growth and progress.
ACRPN’s statement came in response to the impending retirement of Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, the current Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), who is set to retire in March 2025. Dr. Madein, the first female to hold the position of AGF, has been praised by the group for her exemplary leadership and fiscal management during her tenure.
The group urged President Tinubu to consider extending Dr. Madein’s tenure, warning that her retirement could lead to a significant loss, given her outstanding contributions to the country’s financial management. ACRPN highlighted Dr. Madein’s leadership in fostering transparency, accountability, and prudent fiscal policies, which have been pivotal in stabilizing Nigeria’s financial systems.
ACRPN further noted that women have consistently proven their capabilities in leadership roles, and retaining Dr. Madein would not only recognize her contributions but also serve as an encouragement for other women in Nigeria to pursue leadership positions. The group stressed that continuity and stability in the management of the nation’s finances are crucial, and Dr. Madein’s expertise would be difficult to replace.
“The exceptional leadership and expertise demonstrated by Dr. Madein in overseeing the nation’s treasury have been invaluable. Extending her tenure would ensure a seamless transition and allow her to complete important projects that will positively impact the nation’s economy,” the statement read.
In its appeal, ACRPN also acknowledged Dr. Madein’s strategic foresight and dedication to fiscal responsibility, which have played a crucial role in enhancing the nation’s financial stability. The group concluded by urging the President to act in the best interest of the country by retaining Dr. Madein in office.
