Acting CGC Nwakuche Pledges To Introduce Fresh Strategies To Tackle Overcrowding In Custodial Centres

The Acting Comptroller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, has vowed to introduce new strategies to solve the lingering challenge of overcrowding in the country’s custodial centres.

He disclosed this while meeting with heads of directorates at the service headquarters, in Abuja on Monday.

The spokesman for the Service, Umar Abubakar, disclosed that the Acting CGC, in his address, emphasised the importance of teamwork, transparency, and innovation in tackling the multifaceted challenges faced by the service.

“He pledged to build on existing reforms while introducing fresh strategies aimed at improving inmate rehabilitation, addressing overcrowding and enhancing the welfare of correctional officers,” according to the statement.

Nwakuche said that the goal was to transform the service into a model of excellence that prioritizes security, reformation and the reintegration of offenders, noting that this could only be achieved through collaboration, accountability, and the collective dedication of all stakeholders.

He called on all officers to remain committed to their duties and assured them of his unwavering support in fostering a secure and humane correctional system.
