AGF Fagbemi Commends Justice Muhammad’s 40 Years of Judicial Service, Promises Enhanced Welfare & Vacancy Filling In Judiciary
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef O. Fagbemi, delivered a speech praising the career and character of retiring Supreme Court Justice Musa Dattijo Muhammad at the valedictory session marking his retirement.
Fagbemi described Justice Muhammad as a “remarkable and proficient jurist of immense resourcefulness” who served the judiciary for over four decades. He highlighted Justice Muhammad’s rise through the ranks from Magistrate Grade II in 1978 to Justice of the Supreme Court in 2012.
The Attorney General noted Justice Muhammad’s “selflessness and patriotic dispositions” in always putting the interests of the judiciary and the nation first, citing the ruling he delivered declaring Executive Order 10 unconstitutional despite it intending to benefit the judiciary.
Fagbemi acknowledged the Supreme Court was severely understaffed, with only 10 out of 21 Justices currently, but expressed hope recruitments would be concluded soon to ease the burden. He assured the judiciary of the Federal Government’s commitment to improving welfare and wellbeing of judicial officers.
In conclusion, Fagbemi wished Justice Muhammad a peaceful retirement and expressed hope he would continue contributing his wealth of experience to the development of the nation. He thanked Justice Muhammad for his commendable service to the judiciary and the country.
