“Ahoada East Sole Administrator Goodluck Iheamnacho Resigns” — Cites Private Sector Ambition
Rivers State’s volatile political landscape took a fresh twist on Friday with the unexpected resignation of Hon. Goodluck Iheamnacho, the Sole Administrator of Ahoada East Local Government Area.
Iheamnacho’s resignation was formally conveyed in a letter addressed to the Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral (retd) Ibok-Ete Ibas. The announcement sent shockwaves across the state and quickly dominated social media discussions, fueling widespread speculation over the true reason behind the move.
In the letter, Iheamnacho stated that his decision to step down was driven by a desire to return to the private sector. “Sequel to the above subject matter; I humbly write to your noble office to convey to you my resignation as the Administrator of Ahoada East LGA. My decision is informed by my desire to return back to the private sector,” the letter read in part.
While the former administrator expressed gratitude to the state government and the people of Ahoada East for the opportunity to serve, questions linger about whether the resignation was entirely voluntary. Political resignations in Nigeria—especially within Rivers State—are often believed to be influenced by internal pressure or political maneuvering.
“I sincerely thank the government of Rivers State and the good people of Ahoada East for finding me worthy to serve from the 11th of April 2025 to the 20th of July 2025,” Iheamnacho added.
Following the development, our correspondent observed heightened security presence at the Ahoada East Council headquarters, suggesting underlying tensions in the area.
Although no official reason has been given beyond the stated return to private life, political observers suggest that the resignation may be linked to the broader power struggle that has engulfed Rivers State in recent months.
With uncertainty hovering over local government leadership in the state, all eyes remain on the next move by the Rivers State government.
