Anambra Kidnappers Strike Again in Aguata, Victim’s Account Drained During Abduction

Kidnappers in Anambra State have persisted in their activities, despite stern warnings from the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, as a recent abduction in Aguata Local Government Area highlights the ongoing threat.

On Sunday night, a man from Aku village, Ezinifitte community, was kidnapped around 11:00 pm. According to a cousin of the victim, who reached out for help, the kidnappers drove the victim around in his own vehicle while negotiations for a ransom were underway.

By 7:00 am the following morning, the cousin reported that the victim had been released. However, the release came at a steep price: the victim’s bank account had been drained through a POS transaction linked to a MoniePoint account. The cousin expressed gratitude for the support received, thanking well-wishers for their prayers and offers of assistance during the distressing ordeal.

While the specific amount taken from the victim’s account was not disclosed, the family member appealed for advice or clues on how to recover the stolen funds. Efforts to verify the details of the incident from the state police command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, were unsuccessful.

This latest incident underscores the continued challenge of kidnapping in Anambra, despite the government’s efforts to combat the crime.
