Andy Uba to Face Trial in March for Alleged N400 Million Fraud Scheme
A Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled March 5, 2025, for the arraignment of former senator representing Anambra South, Andy Uba, who is facing charges related to an alleged N400 million fraud.
The court date was set by Justice Inyang Ekwo, who granted an ex parte application by M.C. Anthony, the counsel for the inspector-general of police (IGP). The application requested that Uba and his co-defendants be served with the charges and related documents through substituted means due to their alleged efforts to evade service.
Justice Ekwo instructed that the court processes be served within seven days, allowing the case to proceed. Anthony’s motion followed reports that Uba and two others—Crystal Uba and Benjamin Etu—had been avoiding the service of court documents, despite being granted administrative bail.
Uba, along with Crystal, Etu, and an individual identified as Hajiya Fatima (who is still at large), faces a two-count charge. According to the charge dated October 8, 2024, they allegedly conspired in 2022 to deceive one George Uboh, claiming they could secure the position of managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in exchange for N400 million.
Uboh filed a petition to the IGP on April 5, 2023, presenting documentary and voice recording evidence against the accused. The prosecution has listed six witnesses to testify against Uba and his co-defendants.
The case was delayed when the defendants initially obtained a fundamental rights enforcement order that temporarily blocked their court appearance. However, following the lifting of that order, the defendants are now set to face trial.
