Anyanwu Refutes PDP Governors’ Forum Endorsement, Affirms Court Ruling in His Favor
Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has insisted that despite the endorsement of his rival by the PDP Governors’ Forum, he remains the legitimate National Secretary of the party.
In a telephone interview with Vanguard on Friday, Anyanwu expressed that he was unbothered by the communique issued by the Governors’ Forum following their meeting. He made it clear that the Governors’ Forum is not an official organ of the party, adding that their recent action might have been influenced by an effort to satisfy Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State.
“The PDP Governors’ Forum is one of several pressure groups in our party. Their communique, which seems adversarial, does not affect my position as National Secretary,” Anyanwu said. “The Constitution of Nigeria and the decisions of our courts are paramount in these matters.”
He pointed out that the Court of Appeal had granted a stay of execution on a prior judgment, with the current position clearly favoring him. He also stated that he would continue to abide by the court’s decision, emphasizing that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would recognize only him as the PDP National Secretary.
Anyanwu’s stance follows an internal dispute within the PDP regarding the party’s leadership, with the Governors’ Forum backing his rival for the position. However, Anyanwu reiterated his commitment to the court’s ruling and assured that there was no cause for concern regarding his position within the party.
