“APC Accuses Governor Adeleke of Planning Violence Amid Local Government Crisis in Osun”
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has issued a stern warning to local government workers, mandating that they resume their duties within 72 hours or face termination. According to the APC, any worker who does not comply by Wednesday will lose their job.
In a statement released on Monday by Kola Olabisi, the APC’s Director of Media and Information, the party accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of orchestrating a violent plan involving non-state actors. Despite the governor’s directive for newly elected council chairmen to refrain from visiting local government secretariats, the APC believes the true intention is to spark unrest.
The APC contended that Governor Adeleke is plotting to target the reinstated chairmen and councillors through the use of security forces such as the Amotekun Corps and militants allegedly brought in from Oyo State and the Niger Delta. “Our intelligence suggests that the governor’s political faction, led by businessman Dr. Deji Adeleke, is frustrated by the national embarrassment following the controversial election process,” the statement claimed.
The APC further accused the governor’s party of using the “smokescreen” of chairmen staying away from local government offices to set up a destabilizing plot. They argued that the goal is to frame the reinstated officials and stir chaos. The party also implicated Senator Bala Muhammed, Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governor’s Forum, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde in this alleged scheme to create unrest in Osun.
The APC alleged that Makinde had sent thugs from Ibadan to Osogbo during the swearing-in of the “illegal” council chairmen, while Muhammed allegedly secured assistance from a PDP governor to deploy militants from the Niger Delta region. The militants were said to be disguised as security personnel, intending to intimidate the public and abduct opposition figures to incite fear.
Additionally, the APC claimed that the Amotekun Corps, led by retired police officer CSP Adekunle Omoyele, would be complicit in this alleged plot by providing cover for these militants, supplying them with hooded clothing to conceal their identities.
The APC also urged security forces to investigate the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye, where suspected cultists, hoodlums, and militants are reportedly undergoing training. The APC called on citizens, especially workers and traders, to stay alert and for the security agencies to enhance their protective efforts.
In response, the Osun State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) reaffirmed its earlier position, announcing that local government workers would continue their withdrawal of services due to ongoing political instability. In a statement from NLC chairman Christopher Arapasopo, the union expressed unwavering support for its members, stating that worker safety remained a top priority. “We will not allow our members to work in an environment of insecurity,” Arapasopo declared. The NLC also pledged to stand firm in defense of justice, workers’ rights, and the rule of law despite the ongoing political crisis in the state.
