“APC Renews Invitation to Governor Mutfwang, Urges Him to Join Before Next Congress”
The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has renewed its call for Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the APC, citing his impressive performance in office as the driving factor.
In a statement released after a meeting in Abuja on Friday, the Chairman of the North-Central APC Forum, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, emphasized that Mutfwang’s contributions to Plateau State made him a valuable asset for the APC. The forum called for Mutfwang to make the transition before the next congress, offering him the opportunity to take leadership of the party in the state.
This marks the latest move in the APC’s long-standing efforts to persuade Mutfwang to join its ranks. The North-Central APC Forum initially invited the governor in April 2024, shortly after the Supreme Court affirmed his election as Plateau’s governor. A letter was also sent to the APC’s national secretariat, notifying them of the invitation.
The forum’s continued efforts to draw Mutfwang into the APC included a closed-door meeting in March 2024 with Plateau APC leaders and stakeholders in Abuja. The aim was to strategize on how to convince Mutfwang to defect, positioning him as a key figure in the party’s future in the state.
Despite rumors in December 2024 that Mutfwang had joined the APC, the governor denied the claims, reaffirming his allegiance to the PDP. However, the APC Forum has not given up and is once again extending an invitation to Mutfwang, praising his governance and highlighting the advantages of aligning with the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The statement further argued that Mutfwang’s defection would allow him to work more closely with President Bola Tinubu, solidifying the governor’s relationship with the federal government and enabling Plateau to benefit from the “Renewed Hope Agenda.” The forum also stressed that joining the APC would ensure the state is aligned with the other North-Central states governed by the party.
The APC Forum pointed out that Plateau remains the only North-Central state not currently under APC control and that bringing Mutfwang into the fold would ensure more coordinated development across the region. It further warned that the ongoing crises within the PDP could harm Mutfwang’s political future, particularly with the 2027 elections looming.
“The PDP is struggling with internal crises, and Governor Mutfwang should not wait to be dragged down with it,” the forum’s statement read. “By joining the APC now, Mutfwang can safeguard his position and the future of Plateau State.”
The North-Central APC Forum’s invitation to Mutfwang also includes plans to bring him into the party’s leadership before the next congress, ensuring his place at the forefront of Plateau’s political scene within the APC.
