APC’s Ajibola Basiru Welcomes PDP Crisis, Says It’s Not Their Job to Fix It
The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing crisis within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the party’s internal struggles are the result of the personal ambitions of certain individuals, not the ruling APC.
Basiru’s comments came in response to accusations made by PDP’s former presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who claimed that the APC government had been bribing opposition leaders with N50 million each to destabilize the opposition.
Atiku’s remarks suggested that the APC-led government was deliberately trying to cause disarray within the PDP by offering monetary incentives to divide its leadership.
However, Basiru rejected these claims, emphasizing that the APC is not concerned with the internal issues of the opposition. Speaking at the inauguration of unit, ward, and local government canvassers under the Alubarika movement of the APC in Osun State on Sunday, Basiru said, “The ambition of a few individuals is what is causing the rift within the opposition party, and it is to the joy of us as a ruling party if they don’t get their house together. It is not our job to help them put their house in order.”

Basiru’s statement further pointed out that the APC had no role in fueling the PDP’s troubles. Instead, he suggested that the leadership struggles and rifts within the opposition were self-inflicted, driven by the personal ambitions of key figures in the PDP.
His response comes amid growing tensions in the PDP, where party members have been publicly battling over various positions. Recently, the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting in Abuja was marked by a dispute between Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye over the position of National Secretary.

The crisis took a new turn last week when the Court of Appeal in Enugu ruled that Ude-Okoye should take over as the substantive National Secretary of the PDP, following the vacancy left by Anyanwu. Anyanwu, however, challenged this ruling, arguing that Ude-Okoye had no right to assume the position while his appeal to the Supreme Court was still pending.
Despite this unfolding drama within the PDP, Basiru maintained that the APC had no interest in getting involved in the opposition party’s issues and would focus on its own governance.
