Another New Masterpiece On COVID-19 and Law: A Book By Godfree Matthew.

ABOUT THE BOOK

The book, “Appraising The Jurisprudence of Mandatory COVID 19 Vaccination Under International Laws and Nigeria’s Domestic Laws”, was written by Godfree Matthew. It was published on December 23, 2022 ,by Molkai Ventures LTD, Jos. The book is foreword by a renowned Prof of Health law, Prof Abiodun Jacob Dada, A former Acting- Dean of Faculty of Law, University Of Calabar , and a Former Justice of Court of Appeal of Gambia.

The book is an exposition of international laws and domestic laws governing vaccination in Nigeria. The book has 202 pages. It is structured into Ten chapters.

The First chapter examines the basic concept associated with vaccination. Here the meaning, types and functions of Vaccination were discussed. Chapter Two deals with the theories surrounding COVID-19 vaccination. Chapter Three discusses the medico-legal stages involved in the manufacturing of drugs (vaccines).

In Chapter Four, the writer deals with the basic principles of medical ethics and how they interfaced with the situations surrounding COVID-19 vaccination in Nigeria.

In chapter Five, the book explores some international laws ( laws of international institutions) regulating the vaccination. While, Chapter Six, examines how the regional laws approached , and are approaching, the issue of COVID-19 vaccination. The regional laws discussed cuts across Africa,Asia, Arab-World, America and Europe.

Chapter Seven discusses Nigerians domestic laws relating to vaccination. Chapter Eight addresses the legal conundrums surrounding compulsory COVID-19 vaccination. Thus questions like whether an employer can order mandatory vaccination on its employees? Whether school mandatory vaccination can be ordered on its pupil? Whether Children rights to choose COVID-19 vaccination can be subject to parental consent? etc., are all addressed in this book.

Chapter nine deals with challenges confronting justification for mandatory application COVID 19 vaccined under Nigeria’s law.

Finally, Chapter Ten concludes with recommendations on how to address the challenges confronting the justifiable application of mandatory vaccination, as a public health measure.
