Atiku Abubakar Demands Investigation into Military Parade for Seyi Tinubu, Calls it a Violation of Military Traditions
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly condemned a recent military parade involving Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, calling for a thorough investigation into the incident. Atiku described the event as a blatant violation of military traditions and an inappropriate display of military honours.
In a statement issued by his media office and signed by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku expressed his outrage over the parade, which he criticized as an anomaly. He emphasized that it is highly unusual for any branch of the Nigerian Armed Forces to organize a formal military parade for an individual who does not hold an official public office or military position. The parade, which involved young men armed and in full military procession, was seen as an unnecessary and unwarranted display of military respect for Seyi Tinubu.
Atiku raised concerns over the legitimacy of the entity behind the parade, identified as the “Nigeria Cadet Network.” He pointed out that the group is not a recognized entity within the Nigerian Armed Forces and questioned its use of the term “Cadet,” which traditionally refers to young military trainees. Atiku accused the group of misusing military terminology to undermine the integrity of the armed forces’ prestigious traditions.
Further investigation by Atiku’s legal team and military experts revealed that the “Nigeria Cadet Network” is not a legally registered organization. Of particular concern was the use of firearms during the parade, especially in light of the rising issue of illegal arms proliferation in Nigeria.
Atiku is now calling on relevant security agencies to investigate the following issues:
- The legitimacy of the “Nigeria Cadet Network” and its use of the title “Cadet” despite not being a registered entity.
- The origin and legality of the firearms used by civilians in the parade.
- The propriety of granting military honours to Seyi Tinubu, allegedly with the assistance of security personnel.
Atiku emphasized the need to preserve the integrity of the Nigerian Armed Forces and insisted that if any legal violations are uncovered, all responsible parties—whether members of the “Nigeria Cadet Network” or Seyi Tinubu himself—should be held accountable.
