Atiku Calls for Vigilance to Protect Democracy in 2025
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on Nigerians to be more vigilant in 2025, urging citizens to closely monitor the actions and decisions of political leaders to safeguard the nation’s democratic achievements.
In his New Year message shared on his verified X handle, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emphasized the importance of public awareness and accountability. He stated, “This New Year marks the beginning of a momentous era, one of heightened public awareness and vigilance. It is a time when every Nigerian must closely observe the actions and decisions of our political leaders.”
Atiku encouraged Nigerians to actively participate in ensuring that democracy is preserved and that no leader uses power to exploit the public for personal gain. He stressed the need for citizens to hold leaders accountable at every level of government, warning against unchecked power that could erode freedoms.
Reflecting on the previous year, Atiku acknowledged the challenges faced in 2024 and recognized the pressing need for greater governmental accountability. He expressed gratitude for the grace to see another year despite the difficulties, emphasizing the role of unwavering faith in navigating national trials.
The former Vice President also urged Nigerians to unite, resist division along ethnic or religious lines, and work toward collective prosperity. He highlighted the importance of protecting democratic principles and safeguarding fundamental rights from any government overreach.
In his prayer for 2025, Atiku sought a revitalization of Nigeria’s economy, hoping for relief from the burdens of economic hardship that have constrained the nation’s growth. He also paid tribute to those who lost their lives due to the daily struggles faced by many Nigerians, calling their hardships a reminder of the urgent work needed for national progress.
Atiku concluded with a message of hope for a prosperous 2025, encouraging Nigerians to work together to build a safer, stronger, and more unified country.
