“Atiku: Osun Crisis Reveals APC’s Dark Agenda to Subvert Democracy”
Former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has accused President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) of using desperate and unlawful measures to stay in power, claiming that the ruling party is actively subverting Nigeria’s democracy. His remarks come in the wake of a local government crisis in Osun State that resulted in violence and the invasion of the Lagos State House of Assembly by security forces.
Atiku condemned the actions of the APC, calling them a dangerous display of political lawlessness. He accused the party of resorting to “political brigandage” and employing undemocratic tactics to retain control, particularly during the local government elections in Osun.
The former Vice President didn’t mince words: “What we saw in Osun was an all-out assault on democracy, orchestrated by the APC. Armed thugs, shielded by the party, launched an all-out attack to seize control of all 30 local government councils. And, disturbingly, the leadership of the APC and the presidency remained silent, complicit in this violence.”
Despite the chaos, Atiku praised the courageous resistance of the Osun people, who, he said, stood firm against the onslaught of political thugs, preventing the hijacking of their electoral rights. “Had it not been for the resilient citizens of Osun, democracy there would have been crushed,” he added.
Atiku called on Nigerians to stand firm against this undemocratic behavior and resist attempts by the APC to hijack the country’s political process. He said, “These are dangerous times. The APC has shown its true face—abandoning any semblance of legitimacy and resorting to force in its drive to hold onto power, even when the people have overwhelmingly rejected it.”
The PDP leader urged the security forces deployed during elections to uphold their constitutional duties and act with integrity, rather than supporting the APC’s alleged criminal activities.
“Enough is enough,” Atiku declared. “The people of Nigeria will not sit idly by as their democracy is hijacked. The people demand governance, not chaos. Nigerians must stand united to stop this power-hungry regime from plunging the country into further instability.”
