Bajaj Motorcycle Stolen and Sold with Forged Documents: Ogun Police Unravel the Scam
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two individuals, Eje Benson (also known as Kenny) and Ominiyi Austin, for allegedly stealing a Bajaj motorcycle valued at N1.3 million. The motorcycle, with number plate DGB 629 VC, belonged to Francis Ayinde, a resident of Ogun State.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, the incident came to light when Akinola Musa reported the crime on December 26, 2024. Musa explained that he had entrusted the motorcycle to Benson in October 2024, for commercial use, under an agreement that Benson would pay N25,000 every week.
However, Benson soon claimed that the motorcycle had been stolen. Upon investigation, police discovered that Benson had conspired with his accomplice, Ominiyi Austin, to sell the motorcycle for N800,000. The transaction took place in Ijebu-Ode on December 12, 2024, where the two used forged photocopy documents, including a falsified phone number and signature, to complete the sale to a buyer, Emmanuel Nwosu.
After the sale, Benson allegedly fled to Benue State, while Austin reportedly received a N60,000 commission from the sale proceeds. The Ogun State police were able to track Benson to Benue, where he was apprehended and brought back to face charges.
“The suspects have been arrested and are currently in custody. The stolen Bajaj motorcycle has been recovered, and further investigations are ongoing,” stated Odutola. The police have vowed to pursue further legal action against the criminals, ensuring that justice is served.
This case highlights the growing trend of motorcycle theft and fraud in the region, as police continue to crack down on such criminal activities.
