Bala Mohammed Fires Back at Wike, Denounces “Self-Serving” Politics

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has launched a scathing rebuke against the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of being a “transactional politician” whose loyalty shifts to suit his personal ambitions. The governor’s response came in a press release issued on Thursday, following Wike’s criticism of Mohammed’s opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills.

In the statement released by Governor Mohammed’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor dismissed Wike’s attacks as “baseless” and “hypocritical.”

Wike’s “Chameleonic” Politics

Gidado sharply criticized Wike’s sudden shift from a self-identified stalwart of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to a vocal supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government. He pointed out that Wike now advocates for the re-election of the APC administration in 2027, all while maintaining his membership in the PDP. This, Gidado argued, exposes Wike’s lack of political integrity, likening him to a “chameleon” whose allegiances change according to his personal ambitions.

“Nigerians are not fooled by Wike’s antics,” Gidado said. “They see a man willing to betray his party for personal gain, a man whose loyalty shifts with his shifting alliances. In contrast, Senator Bala Mohammed’s opposition to the Tax Reform Bills is rooted in principle, aimed at fostering inclusive governance and accountability.”

Wike’s Opportunistic Approach to Politics

Gidado further accused Wike of undermining the PDP, the party that helped propel his political career. According to the press release, Wike’s embrace of the APC, while still claiming membership in the PDP, reveals a political opportunism that disregards loyalty, principles, and the interests of the public.

“Wike thrives on drama and divisiveness, but Governor Bala Mohammed understands that politics should be about serving the people, not self-serving theatrics,” Gidado continued. “Wike’s erratic behavior and opportunistic alliances only alienate those who once stood by him.”

Governance, Not Personal Friendships

The statement also addressed Wike’s recent remarks about not being friends with Governor Bala Mohammed, calling them irrelevant and immature. Gidado stressed that governance is about competence, vision, and delivering results, not personal relationships.

“Senator Bala Mohammed’s achievements in Bauchi State speak for themselves,” Gidado said. “His leadership has strengthened the PDP as a strong opposition party, while Wike continues to play a double game—PDP by day, APC by night.”

Gidado concluded by suggesting that if Wike ever sought to align himself with genuine leadership, Governor Mohammed would be open to welcoming him. However, until that time, he stated, Wike’s personal feelings were inconsequential to the progress of Bauchi State or Nigeria’s democracy.
