“Bandits Attack Abuja’s Chikakore, Abduct Five and Injure Woman”
A group of at least 20 armed bandits attacked the Chikakore community in Kubwa, Abuja, on Sunday night, abducting five residents, including a family of three and their guest. The assault took place around 11 pm, when the assailants stormed the Health Centre extension area of the community.
Among those abducted were Adesiyan Akinropo, his wife, their young son, and a visiting guest. A neighbor was also taken, bringing the total number of victims to five. During the attack, a woman was struck in the head with a gun butt, sustaining serious injuries. She was rushed to the hospital after bleeding profusely.
Police sources confirmed that operatives from the Byzahin division responded to the scene, but by the time they arrived, the bandits had already fled with their captives. Local residents voiced frustration over the delayed police response, noting that officers arrived about 90 minutes after the attack.
“The bandits have resumed attacks in Chikakore. We need a police division here in this community. We already have land and a five-bedroom apartment ready to accommodate officers, but there has been no deployment yet,” one community member expressed in an interview with Sahara Reporters.
This attack is the latest in a series of security incidents in the area. Earlier in January, fleeing bandits from Katsina State detonated explosives near an Islamic school in Kuchibuyi, Bwari Area Council, killing two people.
Efforts to reach Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, for comment were unsuccessful as calls went unanswered.
