Bandits Kill 8, Abduct Several in Attack on Food-Laden Trailer Along Dangerous Road
In a brutal attack on the Dansadau/Gusau road, armed bandits killed eight people and abducted several others after ambushing a trailer loaded with food items at Matashayi Zaki community. The attack occurred around 6:00 pm, shortly after the military escorts had left the trailer unprotected.
military escorts are typically required for any vehicle traveling along the dangerous Dansadau/Gusau route, yet it was reported that the escorts do not wait for vehicles that fall behind in their schedule. This practice has led to tragic consequences, as evidenced by this latest assault.
It has also come to light that military personnel stationed to protect civilians are reportedly collecting large sums of money from travelers seeking safety. Villagers have expressed frustration over the security fees, feeling they have no choice but to pay for protection amid growing fears of bandit attacks. Ishiaku Muhammad, a local resident, stated that villagers are losing large sums due to the escalating costs of military protection, lamenting, “We have no option, because we are afraid of the bandits, and the army authorities claimed they installed a military station at Dansadau, but it has had no positive impact.”
Despite the establishment of a military station in Dansadau by the Federal Government to curb the frequent bandit attacks, the situation remains dire. The bandits continue to terrorize the region, undermining the effectiveness of the military presence and highlighting the urgent need for more robust action to protect the local population.
