Bauchi PRP Raises Alarm Over Alleged Misallocation in 2025 Budget, Calls for Repeal

The Bauchi State Chapter of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has criticized the state’s 2025 budget, accusing the government of misallocating funds and engaging in financial mismanagement. The party previously raised concerns about the allocation of N3.4 billion for travel expenses and has now pointed out other questionable budgetary items.

In a statement signed by Wada Abdullahi, the PRP’s state secretary, the party highlighted several allocations it deemed excessive and inflated, including N4.2 million for two desktop computers, N2.45 million for two printers, and a staggering N7 million for three photocopiers. According to the PRP, these items could be procured at far lower costs, and such budget items represent financial impropriety.

The party also expressed outrage over the allocation of N39.6 million for just two motorcycles, calling it an inflated amount far above market value. The total cost of these questionable allocations amounts to N53.25 million, which the PRP described as a clear example of reckless spending and corruption. The party contended that these expenditures prioritize personal enrichment rather than the welfare of Bauchi residents, particularly those facing economic challenges.

Furthermore, the PRP questioned the role of the Bauchi State House of Assembly in approving the budget, implying either a lack of due diligence or potential collusion with corrupt officials. The party called on the State House of Assembly to use its legislative powers to repeal the budget, demanding that a new, more realistic and transparent budget be developed to address the actual needs of the people.

The PRP’s call to action emphasizes the need for fiscal responsibility and accountability in managing public funds for the benefit of Bauchi’s citizens.
