Benue emergency agency boss calls for state of emergency on sexual abuse

The Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency ,BSEMA, James Iorpuu has urged the World Health Organization ,WHO, and other critical partners in the humanitarian circle to declare a state of emergency on sexual abuse in the country.

Iorpuu made the call on Friday in Makurdi during the end of a two-day workshop on Mental Health and Psychosocial Services organized by the Nigerian Psychological Association, Benue Chapter, in collaboration with the WHO.

He said it has become imperative to take the bull by the horn, given the alarming rate of sexual abuse in the country.

According to him, sexual abuse has led to the early death of victims.

Iorpuu further urged security operatives to be vigilant to the activities of heartless miscreants who are bent on causing pain to displaced persons.

He stressed that henceforth, anyone caught in the act will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

The WHO representative, Abdulkarim Mohammed, who made a presentation on sexual abuse, warned that any humanitarian partner, WHO vendors and implementing partners that tolerate sexual abuse will be stripped of partnership.
