Benue Police Rescue Kidnap Victim, Neutralize Three Suspects in Gun Battle
In a swift and successful operation, the Nigerian police rescued a kidnap victim and neutralized three suspects during a gun battle in Benue State on December 31, 2024. The operation followed a distress call to the Vandiekya Police Divisional Headquarters, reporting the abduction of Tor Gajir by armed kidnappers.
According to a statement from Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi, the police swiftly escalated the investigation upon receiving the distress call. The operatives traced the suspect, Desmond Ahar, who was apprehended and interrogated. Ahar confessed to being part of the kidnapping group and led the police to the location where the victim was held captive at Adikpo, Benue State.
Upon arrival at the kidnappers’ hideout, the police were confronted by armed suspects. A violent gunfight ensued, during which three kidnappers were neutralized, and others managed to flee with bullet wounds. Fortunately, the victim was rescued unharmed and received immediate medical attention.
The operation also led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, six loaded magazines, and numerous rounds of live ammunition. Police are continuing efforts to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang and recover additional weapons.
In a related development, operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command discovered an abandoned Sienna vehicle on December 28, 2024, along the Keffi-Kaduna Highway. After following the trail, they successfully rescued two hostages who had been captured by kidnappers. The victims were unharmed, and efforts are ongoing to capture the remaining suspects.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun praised the operatives for their quick and decisive actions, highlighting their bravery and dedication to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians. He urged community members to remain vigilant and contribute to the nation’s security efforts.
