Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu Blasts Ondo Gov Over Memorial Lecture for Late Husband, Calls It a ‘419’
Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the widow of Rotimi Akeredolu, has strongly criticized the Ondo State government and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over plans to hold a memorial lecture in honor of her late husband.
The memorial event, scheduled for Friday in Akure, aims to honor the former governor of Ondo, who passed away on December 27, 2023, from complications related to prostate cancer. The lecture is titled “Security Sector Reform in Promoting Peace, Stability and Development: The Ondo Example” and will be chaired by senior advocate Femi Falana.
However Betty Akeredolu took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her disapproval, stating that neither she nor her family had been consulted about the event. She criticized the lecture as a mere ploy to exploit her husband’s legacy for financial gain. In her post, she called the event a “419,” referring to a popular Nigerian term for fraud, and expressed disbelief at the plans.
“Lucky can’t be serious! Which legacy? Mtcheew. Lecture, my foot! This is not for Aketi because I and my family are not aware. Damn it!” she wrote.
She further condemned the move, saying, “You and your co-travellers cannot shave Aketi’s head in his absence. You cannot weep more than the bereaved.” Betty accused the governor of attempting to tarnish her late husband’s legacy with what she described as a fraudulent event.
