Borno Labour Party backs Ndume, knocks Tinubu over ‘bad governance’
The Borno State Acting Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Engineer Isiaku Yakubu alongside Obidient Harmonization Committee members (OHC), at the weekend paid a solidarity visit to the residence of the ousted Senate Chief Whip, Mohammed Ali Ndume in Maiduguri.
The Team all condemned the removal of Ndume from his position at the Red Chamber following his accusation directed at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alleging that the present administration is characterized by hunger and insecurity.
The LP Chairman who led other officials of the party with teaming supporters also said, there were in Ndume’s house to condole him over the demise of his Sister In-law.
Engr. Yakubu while delivering his solidarity message on behalf of the Party said, it is unfortunate, that President Tinubu and his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC is running the nation with dictatorship and hatred on any constructive criticism.
The Chairman presented two letters to the Senator: a condolence letter and an invitation letter to join the Labour Party.
While presenting the letters, the Chairman pleaded with the Senator to honor their invitation, saying that the Labour Party needs an experienced politician like Ndume, with his wealth of experience to help move the country forward.
Responding, Senator Ndume thanked the Chairman and members of the Labour Party for their condolences and for identifying with him despite their party differences.
He emphasized the importance of opposition in a democracy, urging them to continue speaking out and holding the government accountable.
Regarding their invitation to join the Labour Party, Senator Ndume revealed that he has received three invitations from different opposition parties such as the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Social Democratic Party, SDP, and now LP.
Ndume expressed gratitude to all the parties for honoring him, but clarified that he is one of the founders of the APC and was invited to join by two great men he holds in high esteem; former President Buhari and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“You can’t just leave a house you built because a tenant asked you to do so without cogent reason. I want to emphasise that I doesn’t make decisions alone, but will consult with people of my constituents, and whatever the position of my people is, that will be my position”. Ndume clarified.
Recall that, Senator Ndume who represents Borno South had last Thursday accused Tinubu’ presidency of running a solo government despite hunger across the land, just as he had alleged in an interview with Arise TV that Tinubu had been fenced off and caged by certain forces and expressed concerns over the lack of appreciable action by Tinubu in tackling poverty, insecurity, hunger, and other pressing issues.
The APC in a letter read by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, then asked Ndume to resign from the party and join either the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP or any of the opposition party.
To this end, Ndume’s position as Chief Whip and Vice Chairman Appropriation has been upturned and handed over to Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno (Borno North).
Briefing Journalists soon after the marathon meeting at Ndume’s Maiduguri residence, the LP Chairman said: “We are here primarily to sympathize with Senator Ndume over the loss of a family member, and to also show our solidarity as a party that believes in fair hearing, rule of law, and has a vision for the country.
” I want to inform you that our Party (LP) and Senator Ndume are on the same page, the only difference between us is our party affiliation, but apart from that, we share virtually everything in common,
“We, the entire members of the LP appreciated the courage of Senator for standing by the Nigerian masses in this difficult economic challenges under President Tinubu. We are strongly behind Ndume and our door is open for him to come and join our party.
