BREAKING: Two Nigerian Soldiers Killed, Others Flee To Cameroon As Boko Haram Attacks Borno Military Base

Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly killed at least two soldiers in an attack on a military base in Borno State.

Military sources told SaharaReporters that the fighters stormed the army battalion base in the Rann area of Kala Balge district in the early hours of Monday.

During the raid, the gunmen reportedly set armoured tanks ablaze and carted away an unspecified quantity of ammunition.

The sources added that some soldiers attached to the battalion have fled into Cameroon following the fierce fighting with the Boko Haram militants.

“There was another Boko Haram dislodgement on our base in Borno, the CIO Battalion in Rann, Kala Balge was attacked by them, they killed two of our soldiers and injured many others,” a military source said.

“Some who managed to escaped left their duty post and fled with their arms into our neighbouring country, Cameroon.”

This comes a few months after 22 soldiers including a commander were killed in an attack at a military base in Malam-Fatori at Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.

Nigeria has been battling with the insurgents in the North-East region since 2009.

The military has consistently maintained that the terrorists have been largely defeated, often downplaying reports of casualties or setbacks.

Terrorist attacks have claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions, particularly in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states.

Nigerian soldiers have repeatedly voiced concerns over inadequate weaponry, accusing their superiors of leaving them vulnerable against the better-armed Boko Haram insurgents.
