Buhari set to commission Lagos Blue Line, LAMATA urges Lagosians to protect infrastructure

Ahead of the commissioning of the 13-kilometre stretch Phase 1 Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LMRT) Blue Line by President Muhammadu Buhari next Tuesday, January 24, Lagosians have been urged to own and protect the facility provided to aid rail operations in the state.

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu had recently inspected and test run coaches on the track following the completion of the infrastructure for the first phase.

Managing Director, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, (LAMATA), Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akiownnajo, said the completion of the infrastructure was a significant milestone achievement by the Lagos State government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and therefore urged Lagosians to protect the rail infrastructure from vandalism to avoid wasting the commonwealth investment.

The LAMATA MD spoke whilst fielding questions on a monitored broadcast programme ‘Your View’ on Television Continental (TVC).

She said “I want to speak about owning this infrastructure. Let us not under any circumstance begin to vandalize it. If the state spends money three times on something that it is supposed to do once, then all of us will be the ones paying,” she said.

She appealed to Lagosians not to cross the rail tracks, advising them to always use the pedestrian bridges provided to cross the road.
