Businessman remanded over alleged armed robbery in Benue

A Makurdi Magistrate’s court on Tuesday remanded a businessman, Egede Patrick, for alleged conspiracy and armed robbery.

The Magistrate, Mrs Ajuma Igama, did not take the plea of the accused person for want of jurisdiction.

Igama ordered that Patrick be remanded at the Makurdi Correctional centre and adjourned the case to Oct 6, for further mention.

The Police prosecutor, Insp Inedu Friday, told the court that the accused was arrested in Makurdi, during an operation carried out by men of Operation Zenda.

He said the operation was led by Corporal Lubem Shiaondo while acting on credible intelligence.

The accused has been snatching motorcycles from their owners and selling them to people in the area.

“When police stormed their hideout in Makurdi, the accused was arrested and confessed to the crime, while others fled to an unknown destination.

The prosecution said the investigation was still ongoing and prayed to the court for another date for mention.

He said the offence contravened section 6 (b),1 (1)(2)(a)(b) of the 2004, and Section 310 Robbery and Firearms Special Provision Acts of the Penal Code Laws of Benue State 2004.
