CHRAN Urges Governor Umo Eno to Revitalize Akwa Ibom Judiciary Amid Infrastructure Crisis
The Centre for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN) has raised an alarm about the worsening infrastructure crisis in Akwa Ibom’s judiciary, calling on Governor Umo Eno to take urgent steps to ensure the state’s courts are fit for purpose and capable of administering justice effectively.
In a media briefing on Friday, CHRAN’s Director in Akwa Ibom, Mr. Franklyn Isong, discussed the decaying state of the judiciary’s physical infrastructure, which includes broken toilets, damaged fittings, and unreliable water systems. He warned that these issues were creating significant barriers to justice and undermining public trust in the legal system.
Isong also drew attention to the understaffing of the state’s courts, pointing out that the shortage of judicial personnel was exacerbating delays in case resolution. He urged the state government to take action to address these challenges and to restore the long-neglected Divisional Library in Uyo, which remains a vital resource for the legal community.
