Christian youths march against electoral violence in Imo

The youth wing of Christian Association of Nigeria in Imo State will on Friday storm the streets of Owerri in a march for a violent free election in the state.

CAN youth president in the state, Kennedy Asuzu, said that the planned March is a demonstration by the youths of the state that they are committed to free and credible elections in the state.

Asuzu, said that the 2023 general elections are important for the nation, adding that as young men and women, they want to tell the world that they won’t allow political players to engender the peace of the nation, before, during and after the elections.

The CAN president said, “We are hitting the streets on Friday for Non- Violence Election awareness road walk. We will start at the front gate of Imo State University and terminate the walk at heroes’ square. We want to pass a strong message of commitment for violent free 2023 elections in Nigeria and particularly in Imo State.

“We want the political players to play by the rules. We also want the youths to refuse to be used to mar the elections. We have communicated with security agents about the march. We will also have people from INEC speak to the youths during the walk.

“As Christian youths, we detest any act of violence. Let the political stakeholders know that politics is service, selfless service to the people. They should not be desperate. Every responsible youth should join us as we march round the streets of Owerri.”
