Concerns Raised As NBA President-Elect, Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN Strategizes With New Officers
The newly elected National officers of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), led by President-Elect Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN, gathered in Abuja on July 31st for a strategic retreat.
The meeting aimed to lay the groundwork for a proactive Bar that serves all Nigerian lawyers effectively.
The official swearing-in of the National officers-elect will take place in Lagos on the 29th of August, 2024.
The serene location provided an ideal setting for the officers to bond, align their vision, and prioritize goals for their upcoming two-year tenure. The retreat served as a platform to address pressing issues within the legal profession and the association, with the leaders brainstorming innovative solutions and approaches.
Speakers at the retreat emphasized the importance of team building and delivering effective service to the Bar. However, some lawyers have questioned the necessity of the retreat amidst the current challenges faced by the outgoing administration led by Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau NBA.
Furthermore, concerns have been raised by some lawyers who advise President-Elect Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN to prioritize the interests of Nigerian lawyers over those of the government. They also suggest that he should streamline communication channels and consult with his team before issuing press statements to ensure a unified message.
As the NBA transitions to new leadership, the strategic retreat marks a significant step towards addressing the association’s challenges and setting a course for a more proactive and effective Bar.
Good luck
