Controversy Brews as INEC Contacts ADA on Alleged Political Coalition
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that it is processing the application of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) for registration as a political party, assuring that all procedures are being followed in line with its regulatory framework.
In a letter dated June 27, 2025, and signed by INEC Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the commission informed ADA that its application is being handled according to the provisions of Part I, Clause II of INEC’s 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties. A copy of the letter was seen in Abuja on Saturday.
Reacting to the update, one of ADA’s key promoters, Dr. Umar Ardo, praised the electoral body for its professionalism and transparency.
“INEC’s response since we submitted our application has been commendable. Just five days after submission, the commission published a clear statement outlining all the associations that applied—demonstrating impartiality and commitment to due process,” Ardo said.
He added that the coalition received an acknowledgment letter within a week, accompanied by assurance that their application is progressing through the proper channels.
“With this level of engagement, whether or not we succeed in getting registered now depends on us—the coalition group,” he stated.
Dr. Ardo emphasized that ADA’s swift registration will depend on two key factors: full compliance with legal requirements and demonstrating, through its membership base, its readiness to function as a viable political party.
“We must show INEC—and Nigerians—that we are serious about building a political party capable of contesting and winning elections nationwide. That vision will only materialize if we remain united as a coalition,” he concluded.
