Court Adjourns Bawa’s Rights Suit Against SSS Boss To October

A Federal High Court in Lagos has fixed October 9th to hear a fundamental rights suit filed on behalf of detained EFCC Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa against the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Justice Akintayo Aluko scheduled the new date to enable lawyer Nkereuwem Mark Anana respond to the DSS preliminary objection.
Anana also withdrew the Attorney-General as a defendant per the court’s approval.
In the rights suit, Anana contends Bawa’s ongoing detention by the DSS without charges since June 14th violates constitutional protections. Anana seeks Bawa’s immediate release and bail.
However, the DSS and its head countered with a preliminary objection asserting Anana lacks standing and is engaging in forum shopping. They deny flouting Bawa’s rights and urge dismissal of the purportedly vexatious suit.
Bawa was arrested over three months ago for investigation into matters considered beyond the DSS purview. Anana argues the detention threatens Bawa’s life and is thus illegal.
With the court battle now set to resume October 9th, Bawa’s prospects for liberty hinge on the suit’s outcome. The adjournment highlights Anana’s uphill task against security agency objections to free the embattled anti-graft chief.
The reworked version aims to focus the highlights to capture the suit’s essence concisely. Let me know if you would like me to modify or expand the rewrite further.
