Court Bars Onuokaibe From Parading Himself As Igwe-Elect Of Mburubu Community
The Enugu State High Court has ordered Mr Jerry Onuokaibe, to stop parading himself as the Igwe-elect of Mburubu Community in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.
This followed a motion ex parte brought before Justice J.I.C Okibe by the plaintiffs’ lawyer, Ike Ozor, praying for an interim injunction to restrain Onuokaibe from parading or holding out himself as the Igwe-elect of Mburubu Kingdom.
The judge also ordered two other defendants, Chijioke Nwachukwu and Obinna Okonkwo, representing the Mburubu General Assembly, their agents or any other person, to stop presenting Onuokaibe as the Igwe-elect of Mburubu town, pending the determination of the ex parte motion.
Residents of Mburubu community, penultimate week, erupted in anger and protested against an alleged plan to impose a man on the community as monarch.
The protesters warned that any attempt by the Mburubu General Assembly to subvert the Mburubu Town Union’s constitution by imposing a monarch against their wish would be resisted, and could lead to crisis in the community.
They also claimed that the embattled Onuokaibe was being imposed on the community by what they described as an uncertified, illegal group in the community.
