“Court of Appeal Upholds Death Sentence of Hotelier Ramon Adedoyin in Timothy Adegoke Murder

The Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, has upheld the death sentence of Dr. Ramon Adedoyin, a prominent hotelier, in connection with the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a former Master’s student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.

In a ruling on Thursday, the appellate court affirmed the decision of the Osun State High Court, which had previously convicted Adedoyin and sentenced him to death for his role in Adegoke’s tragic death.

Adegoke had arrived at Adedoyin’s Hilton Hotels and Resorts in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on November 5, 2021, in preparation for his examinations at the OAU Distance Learning Centre, Moro. However, after checking in, he went missing and was later found dead, buried in a shallow grave following a police investigation.

“The judgment of the High Court of Osun State stands. Adedoyin’s appeal is dismissed in part. The Court of Appeal held that Adedoyin was properly convicted and sentenced to death,” the judgment stated.

Additionally, the court quashed and set aside the “Order of forfeiture of Hilton Hotel” and the “Order of education scholarship to children of Timothy Adegoke by Adedoyin and others,” which had been previously granted.

This decision marks a significant development in the case, with the court’s affirmation of the death sentence sending a clear message regarding the gravity of the crime.
