The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has appointed an interim leadership following the removal of Aaron Chukwuemeka as Chairman by a High Court ruling on Monday. The court, presided over by Justice Stephen Jumbo, granted an interlocutory injunction filed by Edwin Woko and three other PDP members, restraining Chukwuemeka and his executives from acting as the party’s leadership in the state.
The plaintiffs, including Woko, had challenged the congresses that produced Chukwuemeka’s executive committee, arguing that they violated an existing court order, making the congresses illegal. Justice Jumbo ruled that the ward, local government, and state congresses held by the PDP were without legal standing and invalid from the outset. As a result, the court nullified the congresses conducted on July 27, August 10, and August 31, 2024.
Previously, a State High Court, presided over by Justice Charles Wali, had on July 20, 2024, ordered a halt to the PDP’s planned congresses.
In the aftermath of the court ruling, the PDP appointed Nname Robinson Ewor, the Chairman of the Governing Council of Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic and Rivers West Senatorial Vice Chairman of the party, as the acting chairman. Ewor will lead an interim team designed to stabilize the party and address ongoing internal conflicts.
