The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has called on Nigerians to reject the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, citing the administration’s failure to tackle the persistent issue of insecurity.
In a statement on Tuesday, CUPP spokesperson Mark Adebayo condemned the Federal Government’s handling of the nation’s security, which he said has become a growing concern for both citizens and investors, both local and foreign.
The coalition’s criticism comes in the wake of the tragic massacre of 40 farmers in Borno State on January 12 by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Adebayo labeled the incident a tragic example of the government’s inability to protect its citizens.
CUPP pointed to the rising tide of insecurity across Nigeria, with thousands of lives lost and millions displaced due to terrorist attacks and kidnappings. Despite substantial investments in counter-terrorism efforts, the coalition accused the APC of failing in its duty to ensure the safety of Nigerians.
The CUPP called for a radical overhaul of Nigeria’s security structure, stressing the importance of a government capable of effectively addressing the country’s security challenges. It also warned of severe consequences for the nation if the APC remains in power beyond 2027.
In conclusion, the coalition expressed its condolences to the families of the victims of the Borno massacre, calling for urgent and decisive action to restore peace and security across the country.
