Cyvillian Garden Sealed by NESREA for Excessive Noise After Multiple Warnings
The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed off Cyvillian Garden, a popular relaxation spot located on Abacha Road, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, due to excessive noise pollution. The closure, which took place on Friday, followed numerous complaints from local residents and the facility’s failure to address the noise issues after several official notifications.
In a statement, Dr. Innocent Barikor, the Director General of NESREA, addressed the actions taken by the agency. Speaking through Dr. Christopher Beka, the Director of Inspection and Enforcement, Barikor explained, “We took all necessary steps before reaching the decision to seal the facility. Complaints from residents were investigated, and noise levels were measured at various times, all of which were excessively high for a residential area. We issued abatement notices as required, and even held an arbitration meeting advising the facility to comply with the National Environmental (Noise Standards and Control) Regulations, 2009.”
Barikor stressed the serious health risks posed by noise pollution, stating, “It’s intolerable that citizens returning from a long day’s work are unable to rest due to disruptive noise. Businesses and entertainment cannot thrive at the expense of the well-being of others.”
He concluded by reaffirming NESREA’s commitment to upholding environmental standards across the country and ensuring that Nigerians can enjoy a high quality of life. Barikor promised that more enforcement actions would be conducted across the nation to tackle environmental violations.
