“Do You Know Who I Am?” – Oshiomhole Misses Flight, Shuts Down Lagos Terminal in Rage
In a brazen show of entitlement and disregard for public order, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former Edo State governor and current senator representing Edo North, caused a major disruption at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) on Wednesday after arriving late for his flight to Abuja.
Oshiomhole, who was booked on a 6:30 am Air Peace flight, arrived well after the scheduled departure time. Instead of accepting his tardiness, he reportedly blocked the entrance to the Zulu Terminal at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT), paralyzing operations and stranding dozens of passengers.
According to airport sources, the terminal manager attempted multiple times to persuade the senator to move aside and allow operations to resume, but Oshiomhole stubbornly refused. The standoff escalated until the airport’s regional manager was forced to intervene.
“He blocked the terminal entrance and refused to leave, causing serious delays,” one eyewitness reported. “It was chaos. Even airline staff were pleading with him to let passengers through.”
Air Peace staff reportedly stood their ground, declining to accommodate Oshiomhole due to his late arrival and the airline’s strict check-in rules.
“He missed the flight. Simple. But instead of accepting it, he tried to strong-arm the terminal,” said a source familiar with the incident.
The disruption was so severe that a hasty management meeting was convened to “pacify” the senator and convince him to vacate the terminal entrance.
The Zulu Terminal is a vital domestic hub handling high-traffic routes across Nigeria. In 2023, the federal government spent N2.2 billion expanding the terminal’s capacity, increasing it fourfold under the supervision of then-Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika.
When contacted for comment, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said it had no knowledge of the incident. FAAN spokesperson Ijeoma Blessing Nwosu-Igbo stated, “I don’t work for MM2, and I’m not aware of this incident unless it was officially reported.”
Efforts to reach Air Peace and senior airport officials were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
