“Driver Kills 12-Year-Old Girl, Injures Sister in Speeding Incident on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway”

A 12-year-old girl has been killed, and her 15-year-old sister severely injured after being struck by a speeding driver on the BRT lane along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

According to a statement from the Lagos State Police Command, the tragic incident occurred on Monday at around 3:35 pm at the Ogundare bus stop.

The yet-to-be-identified driver was reportedly speeding when he hit the two female pedestrians, who were on their way back from school. The victims, both siblings, sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Orile-Agege General Hospital. Tragically, the younger sister, aged 12, succumbed to her injuries. The older sibling, aged 15, was transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

The Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and stated that the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered a thorough investigation. The police are also urging all motorists to observe traffic regulations, speed limits, and safe driving practices.

“The Commissioner of Police commiserates with the bereaved family and assures that the police will ensure a swift and conclusive investigation to bring the culprit to justice,” the statement concluded.
