Drunk Police Inspector Shoots Civilian and Abandons Him at Hospital, Family Demands Justice
An Ogun State policeman, Inspector Moses Momoh, has been accused of shooting a civilian, Olaleye Abdullahi, on December 12, 2024, in front of Matrix Petrol Station on Kara-Berger Road, Ogun State. Abdullahi, who is currently bedridden, was reportedly abandoned at a private hospital after being shot by the allegedly intoxicated officer.
Sources claim that Inspector Moses, attached to the Warewa Police Station, fired his weapon after an altercation with Abdullahi. Witnesses say the officer, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, was cautioned by a colleague but still fired a second shot, hitting Abdullahi, who was driving home at the time. Abdullahi’s family said that after the shooting, the officer was detained at Adigboluja Police Station in Ojodu, Berger area, but was released just 24 hours later.
Despite the serious nature of the incident, Inspector Moses has yet to pay for the hospital bills, which have reportedly exceeded N4 million. The family, who visited the police station, confirmed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) had acknowledged that the officer had been released.
Abdullahi’s relatives are demanding justice, urging that legal action be taken against Inspector Moses to ensure accountability. “The officer responsible for this violent act must face the law. If no legal steps are taken, we will take matters into our own hands,” a family member stated.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, could not be reached for comment as her calls went unanswered.
