Edo Speaker Says Sorry For Monday’s Chaos, As Lawmakers Move To Lift Colleagues’ Suspension

The Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, on Tuesday, apologised for the rowdy session at Monday’s plenary, where three lawmakers were suspended.

Recall that the Edo State Speaker suspended three lawmakers indefinitely for plotting to impeach him and other principal Officers Council (POC) members.

The suspended lawmakers are Okogbe Donald, PDP, Akoko-Edo II, Addeh Isibor, APC, Esan North-East I and Iyamu Bright, PDP, Orhionnwon II.

He also accused them of bringing native doctors to the house on May 1 for fetish purposes.

Agbebaku said, “I wish to apologise to the staff of this assembly for what happened on Monday during plenary. It was not our intention to create tension in the house.

“I am sure that this is not the first time you have experienced such. We promise that it will not happen again. This apology is because we hold you in high esteem, “Agbebaku said

But other lawmakers met with the suspended members for several hours to try and find a solution to the problem and ensure that the three members rejoin the house.

One of the members who pleaded anonymity said that the idea behind the meeting was to find out way of lifting the suspension of the three members.

The member said, “We met today (Tuesday) to find a way of lifting the suspension on the three members. There will be a meeting on Thursday and hopefully, the suspension will be lifted on Monday at plenary.

“We all agreed that the suspension is not constitutional and it has put the house in disrepute.”
