EFCC Invites Okoya Brothers for Interrogation Over Alleged Naira Abuse”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited Subomi and Wahab, the sons of billionaire businessman Razaq Okoya, for interrogation following allegations of abuse of the naira.

The invitation comes after a viral video surfaced online showing the Okoya brothers allegedly involved in an act of “abusing” the naira, sparking public outrage. The video also featured a police officer, who has since been identified and detained by the Nigeria Police Force.

Social media users expressed their dissatisfaction with the delay in arresting the Okoya brothers, with many questioning the perceived inequality in the handling of cases involving the wealthy and ordinary citizens. Activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, took to his Facebook page, criticizing the delay, saying, “The Okoya sons are above the law. A country of two laws — one for the poor and the other for the rich.”

According to reports, the EFCC has now summoned Subomi and Wahab Okoya to report to the head of the Special Operations team at the EFCC office located at 15A Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, on Monday, January 13, 2025, for questioning.

The invitation was issued by Michael Wetkas, the acting director of the Lagos Directorate of the EFCC.
