EFCC Raid Sparks Panic, Injuries at Obasanjo Library Event

The management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) has condemned what it described as a “gestapo-like invasion” by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during the early hours of Sunday in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

According to OOPL’s Managing Director, Vitalis Ortese, EFCC officers—led by one “Olapade”—stormed the premises where a private ceremony was underway, firing sporadically and causing panic. The chaos left several participants injured as they tried to escape.

Management insists the raid was unnecessary, noting that the event had police presence from the Kemta Police Station and security at the gates. Ortese said the EFCC operatives neither informed the police on duty nor presented any warrant, but simply claimed to be “doing their job.”

The OOPL accused the anti-graft agency of violating its rights as a corporate citizen and infringing on the fundamental rights of attendees. It demanded an explanation and a formal apology, warning it would seek legal redress if the EFCC failed to comply.

Meanwhile, the EFCC confirmed on its X (formerly Twitter) account that the raid was part of a sting operation that led to the arrest of 93 suspected internet fraudsters in Abeokuta. The agency said the suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence and that 18 vehicles and mobile devices were recovered. They will be charged after investigations.

OOPL has vowed to escalate the matter to the EFCC leadership, the police, and the Department of State Services, describing the operation as “gangster-like” and a “clear invasion of private property.”

If you want, I can also create a visual infographic showing the timeline of the raid, the claims from OOPL, and the EFCC’s counter-statement — it would make the report more engaging for social media or print. That would help make it pop for readers.
