El-Rufai Accuses Uba Sani, Nuhu Ribadu of Fueling Banditry in Kaduna
In a recent statement, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, has accused his successor, Governor Uba Sani, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, of engaging in actions that inadvertently strengthen bandits in the region. This accusation comes amid reports of a recent kidnapping incident in the state.
The allegation gained momentum after an X user, @realYusufTukur, shared a post detailing the abduction of over 30 residents in Kaduna. Yusuf criticized the public’s lack of attention to the incident, claiming that it wouldn’t “trend” because El-Rufai, a figure many despise, was no longer in power. The post also lashed out at NSA Ribadu for allegedly focusing on political matters rather than effectively tackling the security crisis.
The kidnapping in question occurred in Kagarko Local Government Area, where criminal elements abducted the Wakilin Fulani of Janjala, Alhaji Atah Adamu Wakili, a nursing mother, and 37 other community members. In response to the tragedy, El-Rufai shared Yusuf’s post and voiced his concerns, suggesting that the kidnappers would likely be “paid to release them early,” only for the victims to be paraded in a ceremonial handover by the NSA to the state government.
El-Rufai further criticized this pattern of handling abductions, claiming that such actions financially empower the bandits, allowing them to acquire more advanced weaponry. He argued that the criminals’ increased financial power would lead to even more abductions, exacerbating the already dire security situation in the state.
“The terrorists will be further empowered, purchasing even more sophisticated weapons, leading to an escalation of crime, not just in Kaduna, but across the country,” El-Rufai warned, condemning what he described as “propaganda” overshadowing effective governance. The former governor’s comments reflect deep frustration over the state’s current handling of its security challenges.
