“El-Rufai Attacks APC, Tinubu Government, Labeling Crisis as ‘Existential’”
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has escalated his criticism of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the government of President Bola Tinubu, doubling down on his claims that the party and the nation are facing an existential crisis.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, El-Rufai expressed surprise at the lack of understanding around his stance, stating, “I will be surprised too, @itumasunny2496. However, is it not self-evident that it is the APC that has left me stuck in the ideals and visions of its founding fathers and mothers?”
He went on to call the situation a national emergency, stressing the gravity of the crisis that both the party and the country are currently facing, stating, “Our party and nation are facing an existential crisis of monumental proportions.”
Earlier, El-Rufai had taken aim at the APC, accusing the party of abandoning its founding principles and fostering poor leadership. His remarks have sparked backlash, particularly from the Presidency, which swiftly responded to his comments.
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communications, criticized El-Rufai for attempting to undermine the current government. Bwala questioned whether El-Rufai would have voiced the same criticisms if he were still part of the government he helped to form.
El-Rufai’s statements also drew criticism from former lawmaker Senator Shehu Sani, who served as a representative for Kaduna Central. Sani lambasted El-Rufai for his comments, recalling that during his time in office, El-Rufai was accused of practicing authoritarianism. Sani expressed surprise that the former governor, now out of power, was suddenly championing democracy.
The back-and-forth between El-Rufai and his critics underscores the growing tensions within the APC as the party navigates its leadership challenges under President Tinubu’s administration.
