Electricity: Metered Consumers rises 3.3% to 6.1m in July

The total number of electricity meters provided newly to consumers increased by 3.3 percent on a month-on-month, MoM, basis to 6.1 million in July 2024 from 5.9 million recorded in June.

But the total number of electricity registered unmetered customers rose by 0.75 percent during the period to 13.3 million from 13.2 million recorded in June 2024.

This is contained in the latest data released by the National Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, titled “Metering and Customer Service Standards”

The data stated that the total number of metered customers by the eleven electricity distribution companies, DISCOs, rose by 81.8 percent to 70,456 customers in July 2024 from 12,854 customers recorded in June.

The report gave a breakdown of DISCOs with the highest number of metered customers for July 2024 which showed that Ibadan Electricity, Ikeja Electric, Abuja electricity distribution company, Benin Electric and Enugu ranked top with 1,098, 932, 880, 685 and 641 metered customers respectively.

However, Aba Power, Yola, Kano, Kaduna, Jos, Eko Electric and Port Harcourt  emerged with the lowest number of metered customers with 73, 118, 212, 212, 251, 442, and 504 respectively according to the NERC data report.
