Elon Musk: Without Me, Trump Would’ve Lost Big

Tech billionaire Elon Musk claimed on Thursday that President Donald Trump would have lost the 2024 presidential election if not for his support, intensifying a surprising feud between the two former allies.

“Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,” Musk declared in a post on his social platform X, adding with evident frustration, “Such ingratitude.”

Musk had poured millions into backing Trump’s campaign and appeared alongside him during the final weeks of the race. After the election, Musk took on a role in the Department of Government Efficiency focused on cutting costs and reforming federal operations. His tenure as a special government employee ended on Friday.

The billionaire’s comments came as he publicly criticized a Trump-supported “big, beautiful bill” in Congress. Musk repeatedly urged lawmakers to kill the legislation, branding it an “abomination” filled with “pork” that would worsen federal deficits.

Trump, caught off guard by Musk’s harsh words, expressed surprise and disappointment during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. “I’ve always liked Elon… I was very surprised,” Trump said. “I’d rather have him criticize me than the bill. Because the bill is incredible.”

Musk fired back on X, doubling down on his stance that a bill cannot be “both big and beautiful.”

The clash exposes cracks in their once-close relationship as Musk warned that politicians who “betrayed the American people” would be voted out in the November elections.
