Enigie Vs. Oba Of Benin: Case To Be Heard De Novo, Adjourned
Hearing in the suit filed at the Edo State High Court by two Enigie (dukes) against the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II, over their suspension has been adjourned till 17th October, and will be heard afresh.
The suspended Enigie, Edomwonyi Ogiegbaen, the suspended Duke of Egbaen Siluko dukedom, and Gregory Akenzua, the suspended Duke of Evbobanosa Dukedom were aggrieved over the move and sued the Oba, challenging the decision.
The court had in the last sitting on May 9 reportedly admitted the Benin Traditional Council (BTC) as a party in the suit and adjourned till Monday, July 15.
Some police operatives were stationed in front of the high court premises as early as 7 a.m. on Monday.
As of the May 9 session, access to persons other than parties and their counsel was restricted. However, parties were absent.
