“Enugu Gov. Peter Mbah Appeals for Peace, Urges Aggrieved PDP Members to Rejoin”
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has urged aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to take advantage of the ongoing reconciliation process and return to the party. In a call for peace and unity, Mbah emphasized that the party could only win elections by presenting a united front.
Mbah made the appeal when he received members of the PDP National Reconciliation Committee, led by former Osun State governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, at the Enugu Government House on Thursday. The committee had visited to brief the governor on the efforts being made to resolve internal conflicts within the party.
Describing Enugu as the bastion of the PDP, Mbah urged the committee to ensure that peace within the party was genuine and lasting, particularly to bring back those who had left in frustration. He stressed that unity, reconciliation, and justice were crucial for the party’s success in future elections.
“We believe that the Southeast is a stronghold of the PDP, and if there are people who are currently out of the party, it’s not necessarily their desire,” Mbah stated. “What we need now is to bring our aggrieved members back to where they belong.”
He assured that the PDP still had the nationwide appeal and spread necessary to secure electoral victories, adding, “I have no doubt that those who are waiting for moments like this will be brought back, and we can form a strong alliance moving forward.”
Earlier, Prince Oyinlola, the Chairman of the PDP National Reconciliation Committee, explained that the disunity within the party had played a significant role in its loss in the 2023 presidential elections. He called on aggrieved members in the Southeast to embrace the peace and reconciliation efforts for the good of the party.
Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, the State Party Chairman, also expressed optimism about the reconciliation process, noting that the party in Enugu was witnessing a return of many members who had previously defected to other parties.
